Just copying stuff out of tombstone is not enough recover an image. At that point the upload record is already deleted.
How big is this problem on your site, how many posts do you have impacted by this? Simplest thing to do if say 5 or less is just to edit the post and re-upload the image from tombstone.
@davidkingham you can run the following to find out how many uploads are broke.
./launcher enter app
rake uploads:list_broken_posts
That command didn’t work, but uploads:list_posts_with_broken_images shows that almost 300 of the images are broken now. The files were just copied back into tombstone, so obviously the issue still remains after running the rebake. How would I properly run the rsync to copy the files back over without breaking them?
300 is a lot! Is there a pattern here? When was the first post with missing images posted? When was the last one.
We are going to work on a rake task to correct this corruption as long as the file exists either in the tombstone or in the expected location.

@sam I don’t see any patterns, the oldest is from 7 days ago, newest is 2 days with everything in between
Also, there are a lot more thumbnails that are broken than this, but I assume once the full size images are back a rebake would bring these back.
I don’t know if this means anything, but I also have a huge list of files in the root of my bucket, I think it happened after the rebake, one of the files is called 2018-09-09-21-17-50-E2157AA437860E3B and contains this

It’s running quite slow and ruby is eating up 60% of the processor, but I assume that is expected.

Yes, the particular posts should be good now.
Also, long term this particular fail mode should not happen cause we associate on save, not in a job.
Regarding nuking from tombstone, don’t worry about it, there is a policy that will take care of it
Do post saves now get extra slow as a result though? How much extra time is added to post save as a result? If “not much” then why was this put in an out of band task originally?
No noticeable difference, we look up uploads via sha (new optimisation), the document is already loaded into nokogiri at this point the extra selector is negligible
I have bad news, the problem is still happening. I have 10 or 15 posts this morning with no images, they are in the tombstone folder again.
There is a bug in the latest release that affected uploads with id less than 16,000.

I’m currently working on getting a migration out which will fix the posts with missing links to the uploads automatically.

Yes, I updated this morning, I’m on v2.2.0.beta1 +26 and have many new tombstoned images today
FYI, we’re having a similar issue, following a rebuild, where a bunch of older images no longer are appearing in posts, in spite of no other changes. We are not using S3. I rebuilt and rebaked all posts but they’re still not appearing.
I don’t see this rake task when I run rake --tasks :
