We are introducing new event reminder preferences. Currently, all event reminders are sent via a notification based on the organizer’s reminder settings:
While this is useful for members who spend a lot of time in your community, it doesn’t reach those who aren’t already logged in.
To solve this problem, we’ve added a new upcoming change, Enable improved event reminders, which introduces event reminders via personal message. Because personal messages generally trigger an email notification, this means its more likely to reach members whether or not they are actively spending time in your community that day.
The upcoming changes adds a Set event reminders via preference to the /u/:username/preferences/calendar-subscriptions page:
The options that can be selected are:
- Notification (existing default)
- Personal message (new default, this also sends a notification)
- None (disable reminders)
If the upcoming change is disabled, the preferences will not show, and the old notification will happen instead.
The personal message looks a little like this – it shows the event date & time in the user’s timezone, guests (up to a limit), a link to the location/event topic, the event description, and so on:
