Is it possible to make a private forum area? I’d like to run a beta and I want to create threads that only to invited beta users can see and post to. Does that make sense?

I’ve seen some posts about private categories but the ones I read seem to do with something else.

Yes! Create a category and a group for beta testers, then in the categories security settings, only allow this group to see and post in this category.
