My apologies if this is not an appropriate place to post this, but basically, I am requesting that the old composer remain a maintained and available option for users. Please don’t make the new composer the default any time soon. I am still trying to reproduce a number of the other bugs that I have experienced since switching it on, but one major one that I have experienced regarding the posting of inline images, would break my site completely if the new composer were made the default. I appreciate that a lot of work has probably gone into it, I just hope that the old composer isn’t going away any time soon!
My apologies if that post came across the wrong way incidentally, I don’t mean to disparage the work of the team who are creating the new composer. Unfortunately from my testing it just doesn’t work very well at this stage, which is a big problem for small sites trying to get a user base built up…if they run into a lot of bugs, well, that just makes things tougher. I’m worried that the new composer might actually take the place of the old one. One of the reasons that I chose to go with Discourse over phpBB was how responsive the old composer is and how well it works, across platforms. I just can’t say the same of the new composer, it’s very buggy at this stage of development.
I realize that we are all technically beta testers and such, but from someone who is trying to get a small site off the ground, please don’t make the new composer the default any time soon
The old composer has gone nowhere. It’s still available via the toolbar toggle. You do not have to enable the rich editor setting if you do not want to, and we have no intentions of removing the Markdown only mode or forcing anyone into the rich text composer.
I won’t argue that the rich editor has zero bugs — no software does — but we have tested it extensively for months, and we will continue to improve it going forward.
For the time being I will close this topic but please continue to share bugs / feature requests as you identify areas where the new composer is lacking.
