Monospace font in the Markdown-only editor

Everyone, feel free to take a breather from this topic, we have an internal todo for a user setting:

[] Use monospace font in composer’s Markdown mode

We are still discussing internally what the default should be, product are leaning on leaving it unchecked everywhere by default. My personal pref is for it to be enabled by default cause I find the mobile story gets confusing without this ticked.

Anyway regardless of defaults:

  • Users will be able to choose
  • Admins will be able to set the default for the community

My two cents:
Since you offer 2 versions, and some users are not familiar with markdown (and Discourse as well), I would say that having it :white_check_mark: checked as the default (monospace being used) is a good option. That will clearly show ALL users that there’s a difference in font when the mode changes.

Then for those of us who are both familiar with markdown and Discourse, we can easily make that change ourselves, if we want to.

I’m happy to know that at least our opinions were heard. Appreciate it! :raising_hands:

Time to breathe…

Hi, I reverted to Markdown mode by default and that monospaced font is very difficult to work with. Ideally we should have an admin setting to change that and revert to the font used before.

Following on from:

This is a user preference now:

It can be set for every user by admins via default_other_enable_markdown_monospace_font, or otherwise users can change it at /my/preferences/interface :

New sites will have this on by default, existing sites will have this turned off via a migration.
