Pinned messages now stay in view with a sticky bar
You’ve been able to pin important messages in a chat channel for a while, but to actually see them, you had to open the pins panel. In a fast-moving channel, that means the channel guidelines, the “please open a topic for support questions” nudge, or the link to Friday’s community call are pinned but out of sight.
Now they stay in view. The most relevant pinned message shows in a sticky bar at the top of the channel, so it’s there while you chat: no need to open the panel to remember what’s pinned.
How it works
- The bar follows what you’re reading: as you scroll, it shows the pinned message covering the part of the channel you’re looking at.
- Tap to jump to that pinned message; with several pins, tapping again moves through them, and a small indicator shows where you are.
- See them all via the list icon, which opens the same pinned messages panel as before.
- The bar is dismissible for members who don’t manage the channel, and it comes back on its own when a newer message is pinned. You can also bring it back anytime from the pins panel.
Pinning and unpinning work exactly as they do today (from a message’s actions menu), so nothing changes about how you curate pins.
The bar ships as part of the existing Chat pinned messages upcoming change, which is stable and enabled by default, so there’s nothing to turn on. Admins who prefer to opt out can manage it under Admin → Config → Upcoming changes.
