I’m accustomed to being autosubscribed, and I don’t find it troublesome to unsubscribe. But I would appreciate an opt-in step upon registration.
As an admin:
I don’t want to provoke folks who do find unsubscribing troublesome into clicking their SPAM button. I also don’t want to waste email credits on messages that will never be opened.
I’d be more likely to turn down the Suppress digest email after days setting from 365 to something shorter if there was a last-call message functionality: “We notice you haven’t visited in [X] days – do you still want to receive emails from us?”
