Regarding domain in global deployment of discourse site

I have acquired ccTLD (example.jp) from Japan, and I intend to expand it to English-speaking countries in the future.

In the case of discourse, which do you think it would be better to deploy in a subdomain (en / example.jp) or get a new domain (example.io)?

In addition, gTLD (example.io) is also operated by discourse, and if you try to expand this into English-speaking countries, which subdomain (en.example.io) or the new domain (example.com) do you think better?

Subdomains should work, just avoid subfolders.

So, is this the best way?

main for jp => example.io
for en user => en/example.io

Yes the simplest way is

English site: en.example.io
Main site: example.io
