Maybe as an enhancement to the permalinks system but it would be great if you could control the routes of links in the backend.
For example I could target any discourse generated link like users, profiles, topics, categories, and do something like:
https://meta.discoruse.org/t/name/id
to
https://meta.discourse.org/customroute/
Here is the feature demonstrated on our board that uses xenforo:

These are just redirects. In your example, the link should permanently be domain.com/test in the browser as well and not redirect back to /u/marcp/activity
I was proposing full route filtering/control.

Weirdly enough @hugh this kind of ties in to some docs ideas we had.
If you are using “discourse for documentation” then better route control is very much something you would like.
Its not a trivial feature… that is for sure … a lot of logic depends on routes being the way they are today.
