I have been installing the Discourse forum for about a week. Why did it take so long? Because I never received an email reply when registering the administrator account. At this point, I followed the instructions in the official documentation to troubleshoot the error. I even suspected that the cloud server provider had closed port 587, but after consulting the provider, they confirmed that it was neither closed nor blocked. Therefore, I did the following two things, which led to a solution.
Changing the Domain Name
I applied for a brand new domain name, but unfortunately, this did not solve the issue of not receiving email replies. This means the guess that changing the domain name was the issue was incorrect.
Changing the Email Address
Since I had successfully installed Discourse last year and the email service worked perfectly, but my installation on the new server last week using the same email address never completed successfully. It wasn’t until today, when I switched to a completely new email address and applied for a new application password, that everything returned to normal.
Summary
When encountering issues with not receiving the administrator registration email, you can try changing the administrator’s email address. However, be aware that this email address must be brand new and must never have been registered with Discourse before.
I am sharing this today to ask if anyone else has encountered a similar problem and what their solution was.
