I’d like to set up something simple outside Discourse that would allow login using the Discourse username/password combination.

Is it possible to use the API to check whether the provided username/password combination is valid?

Or can you suggest some other way round this? I’d prefer to keep using Discourse as the main source of usernames/passwords.

There is Use Discourse as an identity provider (SSO, DiscourseConnect).
