Using Discourse and LibreTranslate without AI

Our community does not wish to use AI, and we turned it off in our Discourse instance.

For translations we added LibreTranslate (LT) in a docker container, and it works well enough.

My question is:
Given the recent advances in adding AI Translations into the Discourse core, can we take advantage of this wiring to connect LT in this way? We would very much to benefit from the integration without adding AI.

There are 2 ways of translating content in Discourse. The translator plugin and the ai plugin.

The Discourse Translator plugin supports LibreTranslate. The AI plugin supports AI-powered translation, using LLMs like Gemini, for example.

What kind of “wiring” or integration do you want to see in the translator plugin that you like in the ai plugin?

Note that the translator plugin is end-of-life and won’t receive updates.
