If a site changes purpose

I agree with you. Like I said in the above post, I think this is OP’s current problem: He has to decide if he wants to change the purpose of his site or not, and not stay in some kind of gray area. Nobody said anything you wrote. One time mass-deletion for repurposing seems acceptable to me (not great, but acceptable). It is not what I understood of OP’s message (maybe I misunderstood).

@justin_gordon Following my previous post and your initial one, personally, I would say you should take a decision: Do you want your site to be open (forum) or closed (blog) ? If you want it to be a forum, i feel deleting is rude (what you don’t want). If you want to control the quality, usefulness, expertise, etc. of the content, you will achieve this with a blog. You can still allow comments, which are only secondary compared to the main content (lower quality, or basic questions there won’t probably bother you as much).

I think this is a good point.

I bet there is a way in discourse to use permissions to control who can create new new topics. I would only have trusted contributors have such permissions.
