The whole subject is new to me and I guess I need extra support as I still don’t know if I am a part of the community or not

Whether you are speaking of this forum - Meta - or another one, once you join you are part of that community. How much you engage in will help you get more comfortable posting and replying to people. If you find you can help something with a problem, by all means suggest something.
While many/most of what is on here on Meta is “technical,” many posts are not. You can find a good number of topics in the Community category. You can find that by clicking on the hamburger menu between the search icon and your avatar at the upper right. Then click on Community.
The best way to get a feel for a forum is to check out topics in different categories.
If you have a specific problem you can post it in an existing topic about your problem or start a new topic for it.

Ero tipo “dove sono, cos’è questo” poi ho iniziato a capire cosa significa comunità e come ci si sente a diventare un membro di una comunità, senza nemmeno capirla. Grazie. È bello sentirsi accolti in un universo. 
Sono membro di una community che si è formata su un grande forum, NaNoWriMo.
Nel corso di alcuni anni, ci eravamo tutti ritrovati sugli stessi argomenti che avevano una cultura di gentilezza reciproca, sia argomenti generali (Cosa ti ha fatto sorridere oggi?) sia argomenti specifici della scrittura.
Poi Nano è crollato e io ho guidato il trasferimento nella nostra piccola istanza Discourse e ora siamo a poco meno di un mese con una dozzina di noi che generano post ovunque. Sono l’amministratore e osservo con delizia le nostre statistiche molto coinvolgenti. Stiamo lavorando per raccogliere più informazioni sul nostro gregge sparso.
Ci sono molti modi per definire una “community”, ma far parte di una che è felice di presentarsi quotidianamente e condividere i nostri successi e le nostre difficoltà e mettere “mi piace” ai post degli altri ovunque, è fantastico.

Quando la democratizzazione di tali comunità avverrà davvero, saranno un grande supporto ai quadri democratici esistenti in qualsiasi forma e ovunque esistano
