I’d like to add fake users or posts that would trigger the in-built spam behavior or Akismet algorithm to test stuff.
What’s the fastest way to do that?

I just create new users the regular way in a private browser window (activate them in the admin panel if you don’t want to activate by email). I tend to have firefox and chrome open, and a private window for each too, so I can have a few test_users on the go at the same time.

You might want to look at the populate rake task and build upon that.
