Piggybacking on other squawks here suggesting the Last Visit line gets a bit “sticky” sometimes for some users. As Sam highlighted Discourse’s definition of a “last visit” in a previous post, it would seem there is still some vagueness in where exactly “last_seen_at” comes from..? And how various browser’s handle background refreshes and the like could well create some of the variation many seem to be seeing in behavior, as well?
Anyway, we just got a new site launched and are getting some users who are wishing the Last Visit line was a little more dynamic and could move a little more in real time. Some are complaining the line doesn’t seem to move over the course of leaving and coming back many hours later.
The “last visit” line is really slow to update. You read some posts and the line doesn’t move until you come back hours later.
Any way for the line to be more real time?
In the end, maybe there’s a feature request lurking in this short ramble: “why not have a user preference setting to turn off the Last Visit line?” On our hosting Discourse instance, it’s possible to make the line go away globally with a little CSS, but it would be nice to just be able to say to some users.. “Hey, just turn it off!” ![]()
