A bit of an edge case, but can be confusing. If you have a topic in a Shared Drafts category and with a tag that has an ActivityPub actor, you can get to this state:
AI-generated summary
A topic in a Shared Drafts category with an ActivityPub tag can enter a limbo publishing state, as reported by pmusaraj. Angus agreed to investigate. Additionally, Jagster mentioned an Invalid date issue, which changes to a real date after the first comment/post.
Angus requested reproduction steps for both issues but was unable to replicate them. Pmusaraj provided further details and screenshots, showing that a topic in a private category was incorrectly published to ActivityPub. Angus acknowledged this behavior as undesirable and linked to a relevant GitHub pull request.
Icaria36 shared a similar Invalid date experience, which occurred when a regular post was later made “federatable” by adding a specific tag.
Got it. Will investigate in the next day or so
And if you have time, even it is not high priority, that Invalid date is a bit annoying. It will change to real date after first comment/post, though.
Hey guys, could you share some more details on how you reproduce either of those issues? (Shared drafts and invalid date) I can't repro either of them currently.

Tested this now. I created a new topic under Shared Drafts with an AP-enabled tag:
I am not getting the Invalid date issue, however, the post shouldn’t be marked as published. In fact, publishing shouldn’t start at all, this is a topic in a private category. Just saw it published to https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/testing-a-shared-drafts-issue-with-activitypub/5079.
I think that behaviour may have been intentional at some point, but I agree it’s not desirable.

No idea how relevant this is here, but I got this Invalid date too:
![]()
What happened was that I published a regular post (no federation), then added the tag that makes our posts “federatable” (sorry), and a few minutes after I went to the admin dialog and clicked Publish.
In this case it wasn’t a restricted category, but the use of the tag that federates is restricted to Staff.
