I’m especially curious for products that have major.minor.patch releases. I want users to be able to find announcements, release notes, bug fixes related to their specific release, but I don’t want to have tag hell of umpteen tags for a million versions of releases.

maybe just tag major and minor?
And btw, I believe dot is an illegal character, so I use dash, like so:
4-22, 3-0 etc.
