혼동을 줄이기 위해 '글 수정' 버튼 이름을 변경해 주세요

Hello!

Steps to reproduce

  1. Configure your forum so that first posts by new users require manual approval.
  2. A user submits a new post.
  3. A moderator visits the review queue.
  4. The moderator wants to reject the pending post, and to specify a rejection reason.

Observed

  1. The moderator sees these buttons: “Approve Post,” “Reject Post,” and “Revise Post.”

(You may view more screenshots of the full “Revise Post” workflow.)
  2. The moderator doesn’t see any button to specify a rejection reason. The moderator gives up in frustration.

Desired

  1. Please rename the “Revise Post” button to “Reject with Reason…” Then the moderator will immediately know what the button does, and will click on it.

Notes

Google, citing the Oxford dictionary, defines “revise” as “re-examine and make alterations to”. However, the “Revise Post” does not alter any post. At best, it might generate a message asking the original poster to revise and resubmit. The new name “Reject with Reason…” would make it much more obvious what the button does.

If anyone can think of an even better name than “Reject with Reason…”, please tell us.

Conclusion

Thank you for participating in this forum and/or Discord development! Have a good one.

I also would expect “Revise Post…” to bring up a modal for me to edit the post, not to request one.

Or perhaps:

Request Revision…

You can change the text of any button on your site to anything you like.

Or maybe “Reject and Notify…”

That might help my site’s mods. But it won’t help the mods of other Discourse sites.

But they may not have the same concern – that’s why we have built in the flexibility. Semantics are wildly different across cultures and organisations.

We’re in the process of building a new UI for the review queue, and one of the things we’re addressing is exactly this issue. Once this work is done, you’ll be able to use more consistent actions when moderating, as well as add notes to your actions. You can keep an eye out on #announcements for the release of these new features

I completely agree with the complaint here.

The other verbs (approve, reject) apply to the person dealing with the review queue, whereas the verb “revise” applies to the user. It just isn’t consistent. The suggestion of “reject with reason” would ensure consistency.

(There might be other ways to link the “reject with reason” option with rejection generally.)

While this is true. I believe the Op is suggesting have a modal to define the reason. Similar but maybe different the. Flag with something else.

This sounds very promising. Maybe a flag editting system where you can create flags and assign weight for actions automations.

Thanks for the clarification! I understand nothing breaks functionally, but I personally think this might still qualify as a serious bug. The interface suggests users can edit their post below and reapply, yet in reality, they aren’t able to take any action — which could cause confusion or frustration. Just wanted to bring this up for consideration!
Apologies if I misunderstood the intent — just thought it might be worth pointing out.

:sunflower:

:innocent:
