I can support turning it down for TL2 and absolutely for mailing list people. These are sensible changes.
But there really is no downside to
- super MEGA clear call to action in email
- similar to existing “reply to topic” call to action style we already use
Just ask anyone starting a new Discourse instance what their priorities are with regards to user engagement..
