Our site requires all new users to apply, answer questions, and then be approved by Admin.
Is there a place where unapproved new member’s answers/requests are saved? A log?
Thank you.
BuddhistBookClub operates a private Discourse site requiring new users to complete mandatory and optional questions before admin approval. Once approved, users join the default group and can later request access to others. They’re asking whether Discourse retains or logs the answers of users who are not approved, to track unapproved applications. mcwumbly seeks clarification on the workflow, confirming whether everything occurs within Discourse — which BuddhistBookClub confirms. They emphasize the need to preserve unapproved users’ submitted data for record-keeping, despite those users never gaining access. The site’s approval process is fully managed within Discourse, with no external systems involved. The core question remains: does Discourse store or log unapproved member requests and their answers? The community seeks guidance on retrieving or enabling such a log for moderation and archival purposes.

I’m not sure I’m fully understanding your question, or your site’s current or desired workflow.
Could you walk through the current workflow step by step?
In particular, where what happens when a user is approved? Are they added to a particular group at that point? Is everything you’re describing happening within Discourse or do some of these activities happen in a different system?
Thank you very much for the reply. Everything happens in discourse.
Our site is completely private. Only users with accounts, after logging in, can read posts, reply, etc.
When creating a new user account, there are several mandatory questions, several optional ones.
After a new user completes the questions, agreeing to terms of service, etc, the Admin of the site are notified and review the application. If everything looks okay, they’re approved and can now login and participate in the site. At this time they are only added to the default group, after a period of time they can ask to be added to other groups.
We would like to know how to keep track of the information and answers provided by users who are not approved.
Thank you for the support and for such a fantastic application.
