Inconsistent plugin settings

AI-generated summary

The discussion highlights inconsistencies in how plugin settings are accessed within the admin interface. Some plugins, like Discourse AI, have a dedicated “Settings” tab and additional tabs, while others, such as Akismet, only show settings when clicked in the admin sidebar. However, plugins like Calendar and Fingerprint do not display settings directly; instead, users must navigate to “Installed plugins” and manually select the settings. Moin references a previous discussion on this issue, noting that the Calendar plugin should be updated to match the UI of plugins like AI and Gamification. RGJ acknowledges the feedback, and sam confirms that the Calendar/Events plugin is in a messy state and is on the team’s list to improve. Moin mentions that a settings tab for Calendar and Events was added in a recent GitHub pull request.

The way plugin settings are accessible seems inconsistent

Some plugins, like Discourse AI, have a “Settings” tab, and some other tabs, and clicking on “AI” in the admin sidebar will give us all the options we need.

Some plugins only have settings, for instance clicking on “Akismet” in the admin sidebar will give us the settings.

But for instance the Calendar plugin will not show the settings if you click it in the admin sitebar, it will only show us the additional configuration.

The same for Fingerprint.

In order to get to the settings for Calendar or Fingerprint, I have to go to “Installed plugins” in the admin sidebar, then scroll down to the plugin I need, and click the Settings button.

I can also manually add settings to the URL so I end up at /admin/plugins/calendar/settings. But there is no tab for it.

Yes, Calendar / Events is in a very very very messy state config wise. It is on our list to sort it out.
