The discussion revolves around the idea of alias usernames and group mentioning in Discourse. Konstantin_Ladutenko initially proposed the concept of alias usernames, which would allow a single user to have multiple usernames that notify only one account. Additionally, they suggested collective group names (e.g., @help or @support) that would notify a group of users and allow access to conversation history.
Alefattorini pointed out that group mentions have been overhauled in Discourse, and Konstantin_Ladutenko acknowledged this, focusing on the alias username feature. Erlend_sh mentioned that username aliases are a niche feature and might be achievable through a plugin.
Jomaxro suggested creating a group with a single user, which would function as an alias. Konstantin_Ladutenko found this solution suitable, and later Konstantin_Ladutenko recommended adopting jomaxro’s solution for future alias requests.
Thank you for Discourse, it is really nice to use.
Is it possible to create an alias username? So that @ mentioning of two (or more) names will notify only one real user? So I can use different names for official posting and private comments without messing up with multiple accounts.
Another nice feature can be a collective (group) name, e.g. @help or @support. It should notify a group of users, with an access to the conversation history and, probably, if some user from the group answered to the post with @help mentioning simply mark this notification to be read (or delete it) for other group users.
Thank you for your proposal. However, it seems that solution from Joshua should solve the problem. I suppose you can recommend his solution if any future request of aliases.
