The discussion revolves around the issue of low-resolution thumbnails when oneboxing images from Flickr and 500px. Patrick_David initially reported the issue and shared examples from Flickr and 500px. zogstrip acknowledged the issue and later posted a commit on GitHub that should fix it zogstrip.
However, the issue persisted for some users, including Patrick_David who also reported problems with xkcd onebox links. bekicot mentioned that the issue might be fixed in the latest master version.
Further investigation by Mittineague revealed that the xkcd image dimensions were swapped, and SimeonGriggs pointed out that the issue still existed for Flickr’s shortened URLs. Patrick_David shared another example of the problem with xkcd links.
codinghorror explained that the issue is due to a fixed height requirement on onebox, which zogstrip had on his list. Finally, eviltrout announced that fixes for the XKCD and Flickr shortened URLs are available in the latest builds of Discourse.
I’ve noticed some odd scaling problems with an xkcd onebox link on my instance. Testing if it happens here as well (and if so, there’s a weird scaling issue with xkcd onebox embeds! ).
