Discourse pwa badge not updating

AI-generated summary

The discussion revolves around the Discourse PWA badge not updating issue. BrianC reported that after reading notices, the badge on the web app icon continues to show the accumulated count of past notifications, instead of updating. Falco responded, sharing that on Android, the badge is a mere indicator of existing pending OS level notifications and gets cleared after dismissing notifications, as shown in the provided screenshot/video. BrianC had tried several troubleshooting steps, including rebuilding the launcher app and reinstalling the PWA, but the issue persists.

Hey everyone,

I’ve installed the PWA for my Discourse site on both Android and iOS, and overall, the experience has been excellent. I also installed the theme component Add To Home Screen (iOS, iPadOS), and everything works smoothly in general.

However, I’ve encountered an issue with notifications. When a notice is generated, the web app icon shows that a notification was received by displaying a number badge, which works as expected. The problem arises after the notices are read and are no longer active within the user’s Discourse account—the badge on the web app icon doesn’t update and continues to show the accumulated count of past notifications.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

1, read what I could find
2. Performed a launcher app rebuild via SSH.
3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the PWA on both Android and iOS devices.

Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the issue, and I’m not sure what to investigate next.

Has anyone encountered this problem or have insights into what might be causing it? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Brian

Where exactly are you having this issue?

On Android, there is no count, but a mere indicator of existing pending OS level notifications related to the PWA.

As you can see above, after dismissing notifications the indicator is cleared.
