The discussion revolves around whether the Allow users to hide profile site setting still disables the ability to hide presence. Users Moin, awesomerobot, and TempAccount note that the presence toggle remains visible regardless of the setting, even though it’s supposed to be disabled. Moin points out that this behavior appears to be a known bug, referencing a related issue on Meta. awesomerobot confirms that presence is still visible in chat, despite the setting being disabled. TempAccount raises concern that users can still toggle offline but remain visible, which could be misleading. The consensus is that the site setting no longer fully controls presence visibility, particularly in chat, and clarification is needed.
The site setting Allow users to hide profile still says that this will “Allow users to hide their profile and presence.” Is that still true? I have the impression that the presence toggle is visible regardless of whether the setting is enabled or disabled.
If Allow users to hide profile is unchecked,
and Default hide presence is unchecked,
Users will not be able to Hide my public profile, but will still retain the toggle for Online/Offline.
However, even if the user toggles to offline, they’re still present. Wouldn’t that be “misleading”?
