Hi, continuing on this Twitter exchange, I’d like to propose an idea – an optional social homepage layout for Discourse.
So, right now when you open Discourse (on mobile, as most people do) you see something like:
You have to bravely click-through on one of the topics to actually see the content of discussions in there, which can sometimes be much more interesting than the thread title would indicate:
Most of us, however, have been spoiled by the more content-centred layouts of social network sites like Twitter or Facebook where you see the content straight away:
You can then get the context and the more orderly flow of posts by clicking on the post:
I don’t know if this would work better in the context of forums, but I think it would be an interesting experiment. Especially because I am having trouble wrestling people away from Facebook groups and getting them to join a Discourse forum. I think part of the appeal of Facebook groups is the serendipity of random posts popping up (maybe sorted by popularity, number of replies etc.), which you might find interesting and read up on something new without planning.
