We are slightly concerned as to what some of our members are saying in their DM’s and PM’s.
Is there a way for me to access them?
Other than impersonating.
As Can staff read other people's PM's? What about admins? says, only Admins can see. Not moderators.

In Discourse PMs are not ‘private’ hence the reason we call them Personal Messages. When you say DMs are you referring to PMs or chats (chat)?
To answer your question, yes, as an admin you are able to view any members PMs.
Just navigate to the users profile page and press ‘Messages’ (red circle)

As far as I know, no you can’t. You’d have to impersonate the user like you mentioned above.
