Importing from BBPress and other forums seems to be something you can only do with a self-hosted Discourse. Is it possible to do the import locally and then import this into a hosted account? We want to migrate a few forums but we don’t want to handle hosting.

Absolutely! If you handle the migration yourself (or use a contractor), we’re happy to work with you to upload a Discourse backup of the migrated data onto your hosted site, and get it restored for you.
