Can i run Plesk and Discourse separately?

Hi,

AI tells me i should have installed the Plesk provided by these hosting options, before setting up discourse.

I set up discourse following the advice of .\discourse-setup to install docker, and then to modify app.yml and rebuild.

All works fine, but Plesk wasn’t installed due to AI’s concern it might conflict with the control Discourse should have over the nginx

Has anyone here on meta had experience with docker hosting discourse but also having Plesk?

Ionos advised me to go through the following articles to configure SSH and then Plesk, on Ubuntu 22.04

If you search here for “plesk” you will find several topics from others who have asked about installing discourse on plesk.

Do note that we only are able to support sites here that were created using the official install instructions.

noted. I’m now glad i re-imaged ubuntu after trying to install Plesk.

I suppose it’s not recommended to install plesk seperately on the ubuntu, because plesk could be used in a way that breaks discourse?

What problem is plesk solving?

i like that Plesk could show solid state drive use or RAM use, as a percentage, if accessing ArecordServerWithPlesk.com:8443

i would have no intention of doing anything other than using plesk to monitor the servers’ resources.

I already have prometheus installed and have used this, but server resource metrics aren’t easy to see.

I am still looking into this one but cockpit might be of interest. Though not sure about the add on podman. But you can acc ss a terminal as well.

I am sorry if this topic has caused confusion for anyone.

Having made contact with Ionos over email just now they tell me;

i re-imaged the server before installing Discourse, therefore i believe my setup is supported? Apologies again if i caused any confusion
