澄清启用“必须批准用户”设置(针对匿名用户)的结果

Re: The description for the ‘must approve users’ setting (at /admin/site_settings/category/all_results?filter=must%20approve) ‘Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to access the site.’

The current wording implies that anonymous users wouldn’t be able to browse the site if this setting is selected. (If I’m reading the Configuration section in: Sign up flow when "must approve users" is configured and the content in Configure Discourse for a closed or private community correctly this isn’t the case?)

Would something along these lines be more fitting?
‘Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to participate in discussions on the site.’
or:
‘Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to create or reply to posts on the site.’

Thanks,
Tom

This is about user accounts which is by definition not an anonymous visitor.

Maybe

Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to create an account

Is what it should say.

Did you run the wizard when you started? It should have helped you make that decision correctly.

No, I came across this setting while looking at options to review new user applicants due to an increase in posts from non-practitioners seeking advice (the site was setup for legal practitioners) and so am considering applying this to a Discourse site that has been active for some years.

Your suggestion of ‘Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to create an account.’ would seem to be more fitting than the current description.

Hmm dunno, an account can only be approved after it has been created.

“before they are allowed to use it” ?

A couple of other suggestions:

'Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to be used.’
or:
'Staff must approve all new user accounts before they are allowed to login.’

Doh!

Yeah. I am starting to think that the current text is not much worse than the alternatives and the distictions are not likely to be noticed by a casual user.

Sounds like staff will login to the user accounts…

I think the current text might be better!

How about: 'Staff must approve all new user accounts before new users are allowed to login.’? I do think the ‘… before they are allowed to access the site’ part is misleading, especially if you come across this setting without knowing about the other related options outlined on Configure Discourse for a closed or private community - the ‘login required’ setting in particular.
