As DO have prebuilt images for things like Ghost and GitLab, has there been any plans to ask them nicely/cooperate with them about a Discourse image to make it even easier for people to install it?

Good point, no idea actually.
I just tweeted DigitalOcean asking wheter they were open to requests, hopefully they’ll respond.
But maybe you can open a support ticket? =)
Might make sense to wait a bit until V1.0, which is about 2 months out.

This is something I’ve asked of them previously.
While I can’t find the official communiqué, I remember that they are able to transfer images between accounts upon request, and sharing images without their intervention is on the roadmap. So that’ll be possible (eventually) even without their blessing.
That said, an official image based on Ubuntu 14.04 (dropping in a few weeks), running docker and Discourse will be nice, yes!
