Disabling view counts in statisticsjson

Is there a way to completely hide views from the UI? I can do this using CSS, but is it also possible to manually disable it so that it does not get fetched, even in statistics.json?

My primary intention is either to stop capturing the view count entirely, completely remove this feature, or at the very least, limit it to the admin.

Did you try this?

If you were to do that then discourse wouldn’t be able to tell what posts and topics were read or new. You don’t want that.

You could change what’s available with a plugin.

How is letting users see these numbers a problem? What problem will this solve?

Thank you, it actually helped. Also, that statistics was built just to share with Discourse or does it have any additional benefit too?

Oh, I wasn’t sure that it would affect new topics as well. Actually, my main motive is to limit some features; it feels like there are too many, such as view counts and user stats. For now, my primary interest is in the view count. I know it may not be an extreme issue, but I think there should be flexibility in what to show and what not to, to personalize the forum accordingly.

To many for what?

What is the actual problem you’re trying to solve? Is it that the user interface is cluttered? Users will somehow game the system?

You can easily hide it with css.

Those stats are basically free since tracking what a user has read is required to show a user what is new and seen and so on.
