You don’t need to point the Docs plugin to the category - this plugin replaces the Docs plugin. That might be what is affecting things for you, as it would cause a conflict with one overriding the other.
All you need to do is make sure doc categories enabled is checked, and then create the index topic in the category, adding it to the category’s settings in the Index topic field. If you still have the category set in the old Docs plugin settings, then you should remove it from there.
This links to a index for the Documentation on Meta. Your designated topic needs to look similar to that for the index to generate. From ur screenshots, I think you misunderstood/misread something. Read from here.
Also, kind of off-topic – but maybe night. Do I need the sidebar theme plugin to show index on the right as well? or is that automatic as well? Thanks!
Gotcha, did you mean by the heading/subheading sections? I was looking for that in the composeer, but it wasnt apparent (to me anyway) if i needed like HTML < h1 > headings and what not. Appreciate again the rapid responses!
Headings are h1, links are by bulletpoints. You can literally copy paste the meta index it should give you an example to start with if you’re struggling.
Thanks. So i copied a part of the Documentation index above as provided by @MarcP, just don’t see the sidebar index which is strange, unless again im missing something…
Yeah. If you see something similar to this in composer (don’t mind the really strange language, the idea should be clear though):

Usually the sidebar is on the left (red) The docs sidebar just replaces the default content. On the right (purple) you see a table of content which is added by the DiscoTOC - automatic table of contents thrme component.
Not sure but your screenshots are not clear. You are taking the screenshot and not showing a sidebar at all? It’s the doc sidebar not showing? Or is the sidebar not showing at all (is it not just hidden, try pressing =)
Edit; thinking of this you should be clear if you are having issues with discoTOC (table of content for the OP) or the doc-categories (doc index sidebar)
Hey Marc–
So the DiscoTOC works. I went back double-check and it does indeed create a sidebar TOC after I go to gears and insert TOC as instructions say.
All of my screenshots include the sidebar, so i am showing the open landscape w/o any sidebars showing.
I just have this weird feeling it will be a very simple fix, but I’m not there yet
I don’t see any sidebars in your screenshots - they all show just the post content. Could you post a screenshot of the full Discourse screen when you’re on a category that should have an index showing?
