Display problem when creating post on iPhone mobile app?

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I’m trialling discourse right now and have a display problem in the app that prevents me from seeing what I’m typing when my topic goes beyond a few lines. Curiously it doesn’t seem to behave the same way here (on mine the text area doesn’t scroll). I’ve localised Discourse in French, could that be it?

Screenshot attached I hope.

iPhone 13 Pro Max with multiple keyboards and English as OS language.

I hope this is in the right category, apologies if it isn’t!

Ah this is interesting (and unfortunate) – maybe due to a change I made a few days ago. It would surprise me if the french has something to do with it, but you never know.

Any chance you could link your trial forum, I’d like to see if I can repro it there!

Trial forum is https://diabete-felin.discourse.group/ – feel free to mess around in it, we’re using it as a sandbox (we’re “just” a facebook group looking for a better home so we’ll probably have to go the self-hosted way for financial reasons).
Another user with the same phone doesn’t seem to have the problem… Weird.
But she might not have multiple keyboards, I think she posted a screenshot, I’ll try and compare again (heading out now but definitely need to figure this out because would be a showstopper if it’s more than “just me” – even if just me, very annoying as founder of the community and main admin).
Thanks so much for responding so fast  and checking it out!

Yes no worries, we wouldn’t leave that in even if it “only” applies to 1% of users. I’ll revert here when I know anything more.

And welcome to Discourse! (although not the best introduction thanks to me  )

Okay, I think I know what happened based on the screenshots I saw of the other member:

I think for those that have it happen, the forum on mobile is accidentally set to desktop-mode.

Can you check what this shows on your phone when you open the menu, at the bottom:

If it shows this little phone icon, it means the forum is in desktop mode. Clicking it will switch to the correct mobile version, and then hopefully all is well.

Haha thanks, and no worries, I’m blown away by what I’m seeing so far. It has all the stuff we’ve come up with over the last 7+ years on facebook in the form of “oh, could we do xyz? Ah no, not possible”.
Anyway, dream platform so far it seems.
Challenge will be managing the migration of the (non-geek) members over time, and (for me) the technical side of running it on my hosting (I’ll manage but… I know it’ll take a lot of time!)

(Damn, wrote this hours ago, hit reply, and it got stuck saving!)

Doesn’t seem to be that?

Only thing I really “messed” with, possibly, in the admin settings is that I tried changing a few strings like replace “sujet” with “publi” and the like. Could that have broken something in terms of the place the design takes up on the screen?

Open to troubleshooting steps and can also ask other members (admin/moderator/user) to check and screenshot (if they have iphones).

oh wait, actually, I hit the little phone and now it works! so when it shows the desktop, it means it’s in phone mode, and when it shows the phone, it means it’s in desktop mode?

Yes  So the icon visible is what you will toggle to, once clicked.

Glad it works now!

Phew! Possible I did toggle it by mistake. Doubt it would be the default setting!

Am checking with others to make sure everybody is in mobile mode on the mobile.

thanks so much for this speedy resolution!
