I’m thinking about using Discourse on a number of sites I run - some non-profit, some for-profit. I was wondering if for commercial purposes folks will have to buy licenses? Or simply that there will be commercial support options a la Red Hat Linux?

No! Discourse is, and will always be, 100% free and open source software. Feel free to install it yourself using our cloud install guide, or sign up for our hosting.
