Emoji popup too aggressive with ) followed by colon

This has bothered me at least 3 times today, leading to the realisation that I tend to end sentences with a bracketed statement (like this):

It would be nice if either the popup didn’t appe1ar after a ):, or if hitting Enter didn’t select the first emoji.

Hitting ESC Enter also doesn’t clear it, which is aggravating.

i thought that’s what this setting was for? i guess it’s for number of characters though. i know that emoji pop up drives me nuts here too.

I think that’s needed, for example, for French, where it’s common to have a space before the colon. Usually, in English, there is no autocomplete because there is a letter before the colon.

“Testing:” doesn’t trigger autocomplete but
“testing :” does, and to prevent that, you can configure that at least one more character needs to be entered to trigger the autocomplete.

I don’t think it should be necessary to use this setting for this bug.

The description is ambiguous but I think that’s for after the colon… we already don’t trigger the popup if there’s a letter (word?) character before the colon:

I suppose my ask is to treat more characters prior to the colon as signals to not show the emoji popup.

Or, probably the best solution is to not have Enter trigger completion until a character is typed after the colon or the arrow keys are used.
