I just tried to OneBox the FAQ link in my forum to a test category we use for things such as this. It did not OneBox. From my understanding, if the site doesn’t have certain information (data) that is related to the link, there is nothing to OneBox. We have come across several external links that have not OneBoxed. There was an explanation regarding how OneBox works, what it does and looks for in a URL. Here’s the link to the discussion.
"Please note that Discourse does require the description tag to be present and contain enough text to summarize the page, or the target link will not onebox. "
Once you’ve pasted the link, behind the scenes, onebox visits the destination page and checks for Open Graph or oEmbed tags, including:
- site address
- title
- feature image
- description (mandatory)
- product price
Please note that Discourse does require the description tag to be present and contain enough text to summarize the page, or the target link will not onebox.
