My site uses the chat plugin with the Chat channel retention days setting set to 7. I’ve noticed that when a flagged message is deleted by this setting, the flag itself vanishes from log of previously reviewed flags.
I understand that the usefulness of the flag drops off considerably once the original context is lost, but I think it’s important to retain the history of the flag itself, which moderator reviewed it, whether it was approved or not, etc.
I’m more concerned with retaining the history of the flag. There’s situations where I’ve wanted to review flag history (e.g. “I know this has come up before, how was it handled last time?” or someone asks “I flagged a post about X. How was that resolved?“).
I find it especially important since one of the reasons a message could be flagged is “It’s illegal”. I’ve thankfully never gotten one of those, but if I did I would really want a permanent record of the flag itself, even if the chat history eventually rolls off.
Ah I see what you mean now. Apologies- I was thinking from the narrow perspective of handling the flag, not about it being kept as a record of whats been reviewed.
