Google Analytics 4 click and conversion event tracking

Hello, what is the recommendation on click tracking and conversion event tracking with GA4 or GTM? We would like to be able to track some key click events and report the conversions in Google Analytics. Thanks!

I’m following this documentation (Integrating Google Tag Manager with Google Analytics) but however I don’t seem the data variable populating in the console, and I don’t see any datalayer variables that allow GTM to pick up based on below. Is there anyway to get an updated instruction on the best way to track pageview and event on the site? Thanks!

Variables

  1. Go to the “Variables” tab in GTM and click “New” in the User-Defined Variables section.
  2. Create two Data Layer Variables:
  • Title: DL-page-title
    Type: Data Layer Variable
    Data Layer Variable Name: page.title
    Data Layer Version: 2
  • Title: DL-page-url
    Type: Data Layer Variable
    Data Layer Variable Name: page.url
    Data Layer Version: 2

As far as I know, if you want to track clicks and conversions in GA4 with GTM, start by setting a GA4 Configuration Tag in GTM with your Measurement ID, set to fire on all pages.

Add data layer variables like page title and page URL to capture page details, then set up click triggers and GA4 Event Tags for specific actions, like button clicks. Mark key events as conversions in GA4 Admin, and use preview mode in GTM and debug view in GA4 to verify setup.

If you have any queries feel free to ask me I am here to assist you.
Thank You,
