Gravatar / Avatar Not Displaying Correctly on Ubuntu Discourse + Can't Add Keywords

I just registered on the Ubuntu Discourse to comment on the second page of the “Windows to USB Live Ubuntu Install” guide — you can see my comment there.

After registering, I went to my profile preferences to set my Gravatar. It connected successfully, but it didn’t pull in my Gravatar image — the avatar stayed the default grey silhouette.

As a fallback, I manually uploaded my profile picture. When I hover over my avatar (top right), the correct image shows up. But in the actual comments (under my post), it still shows the default grey avatar. So it looks like there are two separate but related issues:

  1. Gravatar integration does not actually fetch or display the Gravatar.
  2. Even manually uploaded avatars don’t appear in post comments, only in the hover/profile area.

Not sure if this is a Gravatar issue, a Discourse bug, or something specific to the Ubuntu instance. But Gravatar does work on other sites, so something’s off here.

Bonus bug: I also couldn’t add optional keywords/tags to this post. I typed in things like gravatar, and it just said “no results found” and didn’t let me add them. Why can’t users define their own tags? Almost every social media or forum platform allows custom tagging — this feels unnecessarily restrictive.

Can you reproduce the bug here? or on try.discourse.org?
