I know the selector can be closed by tapping the tag input. But that’s not intuitive. When you want to close a selector on the internet, there are usually multiple ways:
You tap on an “empty” area
You click a icon if there’s one
It automatically closes after a selection (wouldn’t necessarily work on Discourse, as we can select multiple tags, even if selecting only 1 is more common on meta)
Even if I know I can click the input, it’s so non-intuitive that it keeps bothering me, and I still need to think/remember how to close the selector.
I noticed that I expected the drop-down to « roll up » when putting the cursor focus on the search field. I’d expect it to roll down when I type something and roll up when there is nothing.
Yeah, having to click outside of the menu here is not very intuitive.
We’ve moved a lot of modals & menus to use the “bottom sheet/card” view over the past years, and are in the process of modernizing some of these select-kit type dropdowns to follow that pattern.
@saquetim is early in the process with this currently but I am not sure of the timeline here just yet. But once done, the tag selector should more closely resemble this:
