I want to have boxes like subcategories as above,
so I set the settings in the following,
Admin->Basic Setup -> desktop category page style -> Boxes with subcategories
Still the subcategories shows as lists.

Hi PrettyGirl,
This is a per-category setting.
Go to your parent category settings, in the settings tab, and look for “Show subcategory list above topics in this category.” 
When checked, you can choose how the subcategory should be displayed:
