Now I want to set up a Discourse forum for production use.
what should I do?
(like: https://discourse.example.com)
Follow the instructions here: discourse/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md at main Ā· discourse/discourse Ā· GitHub
Are you behind the āgreatā firewall?
It can be installed on most VPSās with Ubuntu 18.04 offerings. Try a more local provider.
any more VPS server is recommended?(except digitalocean)
Plenty, but maybe the local regime doesnāt regard them like we do in the West, so even if they are not blacklisted now, they soon might be.
I would recommend you use something within the walls.
Perhaps a local Discourse admin can chime in.
Thanks for your answer.Iāll try another server soon.
Hereās another relevant Topic: Our Discourse is blocked by The Great Firewall of China, any tips?
Seems they were using Linode for a while, then ā¦
I can try it on Yunohost! GitHub - YunoHost-Apps/discourse_ynh: Discourse package for YunoHost
Discourse for Chinese
https://meta.discoursecn.org/
We canāt support third party installation packages here.
That installation doesnāt use docker which is also unsupported. It appears to be for ARM processors.
You need to find a host where you can use the standard installation method.
Is that an official or officially sanctioned CDCK site, or a rip-off?
He make the community, i think he was contact someone in the @team before?
There are no officially recommended VPS providers besides Digital Ocean.
Any hosting service which provides a standard Ubuntu image will likely work using the same instructions. Some examples would be:
- vultr
- scaleway
- AWS lightsail
- OVH cloud
Depending on your ISP/city some or all of those may also be blocked. (Even if not blocked, performance from inside the Mainland will be wildly variable for your users.)
[NOT SPONSORED, NOT THE OFFICIAL OPINION OF ANYONE]
Iām pretty sure Alibaba Cloud has a VPS offering. Thatās probably the first place you should be checking, and would also allow you to have servers outside the mainland in case you have an international audience.
I think I can use yunohost, but not installed right now.
