This issue has been brought a few times already and I see some PR code fix were also submitted.
Maybe it has worked some times since the fixes.
But at the moment I still have inconsistencies with this “Open all external links in a new tab” option:
As I have this option activated, I expect any external link will open in a new tab.
I don’t have to think that in this or that context I should make a special click to open in a new tab as my regular left click should open all of them in a new tab.
That is how a full time “Open all external links in a new tab” user expects the site to work.
Reproduce the bug
First check “Open all external links in a new tab” option in your interface settings and save.
Then:
- It does not work in quoted text: Click one of the two “Our partners - VideoLAN” external links in that quoted text, it will open in current tab instead of new tab
- It does not work in edit history: Click one of the three external links in that edit history (the upper‐right ✎ pencil icon), it will open in current tab instead of new tab
