Integrating an address book feature to a private discourse instance. Ideas anyone?

My community organization is look to provide two new services to its neighbors.

First, they are thinking of migrating away from their current list-serve. I want to move them toward the adoption of discourse.

Second, they want to build an online address book – names, emails, phone numbers, address, and possibly geo-coordinates of houses in neighborhoods.

I want to explore ways that I could provide this information within discourse – thus avoiding the creation of two different sites requiring people to have two different accounts on two different systems.

I wonder if people have played around with an extension like this or can help me think through (generally) a way to accomplish something like this.

We allow user custom fields, so that is a start.

Can be realized by extension?

You could have an ‘address book’ category, with each topic being an individual address.

I really like the idea of neighbourhood organizations using Discourse.
