Just removed the subdomain from my URL

the discourse instructions seemed to enourage the use of a subdomian, but it made mine excessively long so I got rid of the subdomain after using if for a year. Does anyone know of the best way to handle google traffic from when I had the subdomain?

Should I use the subdomain as a CNAME for the base URL so google traffic still goes to my site. Or just remove all DNS entries related to my previous subdomain so Google will reindex faster?

Probably the best way is to set up a 301 redirect from your previous subdomain to the new domain. This ensures all traffic to old URLs is forwarded properly.
