I volunteer to run the forum https://intensivpflege-familie.de; since the forum is currently more static but is a knowledge base for families with seriously ill children, I would like to move to Discourse. The background is the license costs for Woltlab, which are too high for me for the current use in a volunteer capacity, and the hope of being able to retain people again with a modern design.
The forum runs on Woltlab 6.1x
Therefore, I am looking for a way or help for the migration. Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything suitable for Woltlab 6.
Only the minimum that should be migrated is needed:
Users (Name, E-Mail, CreatedAt, possibly Avatar)
Groups (only as Discourse Groups, without permission mapping)
Structure: Categories + Subcategories (roughly corresponds to Forums/Subforums)
Topics/Threads → Discourse Topics
Posts → Discourse Posts
Optional: Uploads/Media (Attachments/Images in Posts)
Everything else (permissions, moderation roles, badges, trust levels, category rights, SSO/OAuth, PMs) I would set up afterwards. Users can also be migrated as “Staged Users,” as I learned that users will be “matched” upon registration. Or if users are migrated, it can be without a password; users can create a new one themselves.
All other things realized with plugins would be discontinued.
It is a small forum with 211 members, a good portion of whom are inactive, and just over 14,100 posts.
I have no orientation for a budget for this; depending on the costs, I have to decide whether I should rather leave the forum readable (which is bad because of security updates) and if I receive financial help as a donation.
Best regards
