Sharing links to other services

Discourse offers the option to share Topic links. Aside from E-mail there are the social networks, currently Facebook and Twitter ( “share quote buttons”). Are there any plans to integrate other platforms like

These applications/networks are less commercial and respect privacy concerns better (which is more important here in Europe compared to the US).

Is anyone working on this or what needs to be done to get it implemented?

Did you check out the Social Share theme component?

Also worth mentioning that on mobile, it will use the native share sheet of your OS, so most of your users have a customized share button with all their apps in there already.

It’s a great theme component.
But unless I’m mistaking, I’m afraid though that it can’t really be used with federated services, like mastodon or matrix, where we would need different links.

Howdy, in November 2024, it feels like the social options need to be updated to feel relevant to the current media environment.

I absolutely agree. The “Social Share” plugin mentioned above is not usable on Discourse instances with login control (privacy!). The discussions we had about some technical integration between the proprietary Discourse chat functionality and the federated MATRIX chat protocol also had no result yet (see Matrix protocol for chat and my last comment at Matrix protocol for chat - #69 by Thomas_Rother).

I have the impression that there is not much interest among the Discourse core team for the integration of federated information flows.
