SMTP-Fehler! Bitte um Hilfe

Hello, I installed discourse on my VPS server but I couldn’t make the SMTP settings properly. I can’t receive any e-mail while reading the record. How can I solve this error? Can you help me? The issue is very urgent. Or which is the most trouble-free e-mail service?

Troubleshooting Outgoing Email

The most common error is that you didn’t configure the mail service to deliver from your forum subdomain. You can try checking that the notification email is correct. See also the mail service logs

What do you mean? Should I use forum.example.com instead of example.com?

i have discourse site on example.com (A record)

i have outgoing emails to Mailgun on discourse.example.com (CNAME / TXT records). I use a Manual SMTP password under username postmaster@discourse.example.com

i have incoming emails to mail-receiver on discourse.example.com (MX record) with Granular API key for System user, and port 443 open so mail-receiver can communicate back through the host (@) discourse site

this DNS setup works perfectly well with O365 Business Basic and the paid plugins from Pavilion

i would say Mailgun support are quick to respond if you leave them a ticket. I understand that putting mobile phone number into the activation on their web UI often fails.

I’ve long been a fan of mailgun, but now they have nothing between a free plan, with 100 messages per day, and a $15/month plan. For a small community that’s more than you’re paying for the vm.

I haven’t found a replacement I’m happy with.

Amazon SES?

Perhaps Brevo? It’s 300 a day, and support is not bad too. (It’s also under the list of recommended providers)

i liked Brevo, but found their mail delivery slower than MailGun. Also there’s been an incident where a verified domain became unverified and they told me;

Mailgun are great, even on the Free plan; but only once a support ticket has gone through for mobile phone activation, and they send a disclaimer about potentially needing another ticket…
